You might be surprised by how similar these two government-funded, engineering universities really are. Here’s what you should know:

• Both were founded in response to a national need for more qualified engineers in India.
• Both have a focus on research and innovation.
• Both have been ranked among the top universities in India, according to the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF).
• Both are located in remote areas of India and are way out of the city limits but this does not deter students from applying to these institutes because of their excellent reputation as well as their placement record which makes them stand out among all other institutes across the country.

However, it’s not fair to compare a very old and reputable institution with a completely new one.

But, since someone has asked this question, I’m gonna compare the IIT (ISM) and IITBBS quickly in this post.

The idea was first proposed by INC (Indian National Congress) in 1901.	Establishing an IIT in Odisha became a major issue in the parliament in May 2007.
ISM (Indian School of Mines) Dhanbad officially got converted into IIT Dhanbad in 2016.	Later that year, in August 2007, Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh officially announced the establishment of a new IIT in Bhubaneswar.
Became the National Institute of Importance in 2016.	Became the National Institute of Importance in 2012.

– IIT (ISM) offers courses in engineering, pure sciences, management, and humanities with a focus on engineering.  – The institute has 18 departments and five interdisciplinary centers. – The Department of Mining Engineering has been accorded the status of “Center of Advanced Studies” by the University Grants Commission. – Admission to the courses of B.Tech, Dual Degree, and Integrated courses are done from JEE Advanced qualified students. – Admission to the M.Tech courses is done either through the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) or through a special examination conducted by the institute. – Admissions to the MBA program are done through the Common Admission Test (CAT). – Admission to the M.Sc.Tech. and Ph.D. courses are done through exams conducted by the institute.

– IIT Bhubaneswar offers undergraduate degrees in six technical disciplines and integrated five-year programs for undergraduate students leading to M. Tech degrees.  – Admission to these programs is through the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE), taken by students seeking admission into the IITs after completing 12 years of schooling. – Research is included as a component in the M.
